Rates per million population

Notes:

Data reported by November 2012

Data are not comparable to those reported in previous years as cases were then reported by year of report. Data by year of diagnosis are closer to true trends in infection however some reporting delay in the most recent years is likely (data not adjusted for reporting delays).

(1) New HIV reporting system started in 2004. In 2008 data are partly by year of notification.

(3) HIV reporting exists in 10 of the 22 Italian regions (Bolzano, Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Modena, Piemonte, Rimini, Sassari,Trento, Veneto) for 2004–2006, 13 regions for 2007, 15 regions for 2009, 18 for 2010-11; rates based on the population of the regions adjusted accordingly.

(4) Due to changes in HIV/ AIDS surveillance system, AIDS has not been a notifiable condition since 2005
